Clerk Assaulted in Pike County Convenience Store
A local store clerk is recovering at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center after he suffered a gun shot wound to the chest Thursday evening.yesterday, at approximately 6:14 p.m., deputies responded to a call at the Leatherwood Food Mart at 9198 Hwy 98 E in Pike County. An employee said that a man wearing khaki pants, a dark colored jacket, with a blue mask and white gloves, came into the store and pointed a black rifle at the store clerk. The employee said the suspect told the clerk to open the register and give him the money. Then he shouted, “everybody be still and do not move!” The suspect then pointed the gun at the clerk again and told him to “open the f%$ register now!” He tried to hit clerk with the rifle when the gun went off, shooting the clerk once in the chest.He then ran out of the store, jumped into a Red Chevy Impala and left the scene, headed toward Leatherwood Road. Deputies arrived on scene and found the clerk sitting in a chair holding his chest. Officers applied pressure to his wound until the ambulance arrived. The clerk was then transported to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition. An assault style weapon was used in the robbery
Pike County Sheriff’s department is investigating this armed robbery.
