2016 Miss Mattie Scholarship Award Winners

“The Miss Mattie Foundation is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization formed to honor Miss Mattie Rials and her passionate educational and community service contributions to our area. The foundation is dedicated to raising and awarding funds for college scholarships to deserving high school students from Pike, Amite and Walthall counties in Mississippi.” Quoted from missmattie.org.


The 2016 Miss Mattie Scholarship Award Winners Are:

*Miss Mattie Scholarship($5,000): KELSI GOUDEAU

Kelsi Goudeau is from Tylertown, MS and is a senior at North Pike Senior High School. At North Pike, Kelsi is a Student Council treasurer, Geek Squad treasurer, involved in Fellowship of Christian athletes, and was selected for Who’s for Most School Spirit. She has also volunteered with the Special Olympics, Miracle League, and as a counselor at Camp Sunshine.

*Sybil Hayman Scholarship ($2,500): JASMINE BAYLOR

Jazmine Baylor is from McComb, MS and is a senior at McComb High School. She is involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, DECA, and the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board. Jazmine has also volunteered as a counselor at Camp Sunshine, Excel by 5, and Salvation Army Bell ringer.

*Scooter Mouse Scholarship ($1,500): COLE MATTHEWS

Cole Alan Matthews is from Summit, Ms and is a senior at North Pike Senior High School Where he is involved in the NPHS Marching Band, Beta Club, Quaz Bowl, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Jag 2 Jag Mentoring Program. He has also volunteered as a counselor at Camp Sunshine, Camping for Hope, PALS Animal Rescue, and the Palmer Home for Children.

*Punie Mae Scholarship ($1,500): BROOKE WELLS

Brooke Wells is from Summit, MS where she is homeschooled. She has danced at The Dance Studio for 14 years, was chosen as a Magnolia Electric Power Association Youth Leadership Winner, and served as a Gils State delegate. She is also a year round volunteer with Operation Christmas Child, a buddy for Miracle League, volunteered with Special Olympics, and a member of the Crown Club.

*Rials Family Scholarship ($500): ALEXCIA CARR

Alexcia Carr is from McComb, MS and is a senior at North Pike Senior High School. At North Pike, she is involved in Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Council, and is the NPHS Dance Team Captain just to name a few. Alexcia is also Secretary of the Crown Club, a counselor at Camp Sunshine, and President of the Freeman Scholars.

*Southwest Community College Scholarship by Pike County National Bank ($500): HANNA BOURGEOIS 

Hannah Bourgeois is from Tylertown, MS and is a senior at Salem Attendance Center where she is involved in student council, Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is the Salem Stars Dance Team Captain. Hannah has also volunteered at nursing homes, helped with blood drives, and taught music and motions at Centerville Baptist Church Vacation Bible School.
